Day 6

Subject: It's not just about WHAT you know, [firstname]

Hi [firstname],

I'm sure you've heard the old expression: “It's not what you know, it's who you know that counts.”

That's very true when you want to become an influencer. People need to know about you, and word of mouth is always the best advertising.

So get networking!

Social media makes this much easier than it used to be in the past; in fact, social media platforms like Facebook, Linked-In and Instagram were made with networking in mind. Follow and become “friends” with other influencers. Collaborate with them.

Establishing a rapport and partnering with someone well-known (and influential) in your niche can be a great help. Of course you must be able to offer something of use to the other influencer to tempt them to collaborate with you, but if you have some knowledge they don't have, they're likely to be as keen to share it with their followers as you are. It's best to reach out to influencers who are slightly higher than you on the totem pole (so to speak) than the well established players who may see you as an upstart and a threat to their dominance.

This is where your blog can help. You can guest post on other blogs, and offer guest posting slots on your blog to other influencers.

Offline networking is still a tried and tested way of extending your reach. Joining clubs and organizations in your niche can be a great help. If you're in a business to business niche, attending trade shows, seminars and other networking events where you can hand out your business cards is still a fantastic way to grow your network. Better yet, offer to be a guest speaker and REALLY show people that you know what you're talking about. Initially, you'll have to do this for free, but once you start to build a following and reputation, people will seek you out and pay handsomely.

Warmly,

[Your Name]
